Broken Vinyl Portraits

French street-artist Thierry Guetta, also known as Mr. Brainwash, has created a series of portraits of international pop icons, out of broken vinyls and CDs. Mr. Brainwash, rumored to be friends with legendary street artist Banksy, has probably smashed thousands of old vinyls into pieces, to create the artworks for his latest collection, entitled “Icons”. Though they all look like they’ve been drawn with a stencil, each of them is made exclusively out of broken pieces of vinyl and CDs. Read more after the break.......... The intricate facial expressions were achieved by using quarter inch vinyl cuts, while chiseled CDs were used to reproduce the shine of sunglasses. “I had to find something that nobody in the world of art had done. A portrait of Anna Nicole Smith made of junk, artist Jason Mecier created the picture. He creates his portraits of celebrities using junk, pills and sweets. Jason sometimes uses items donated by the stars themselves to complete his pieces. Jason explains: "Celebrities really do send me items. Most people send me anywhere from a shoebox to a trash bag full of things to incorporate into their portraits. I have a bag of Pam Anderson's laundry, and a letter Paris Hilton wrote me from prison." more creative portraits after the break............  A portrait of Amy Winehouse made of pills. Alphabetic Illusion

Designer Marc Böttler used stacked wooden blocks and combined them with tricky camera angles to turn children’s playthings into a cool set of optical illusions. He calls it his Klotz Type Experiment. Because they only form letters when viewed from certain direction, it might be one of the first official anamorphic alphabets that could be used on a computer. Read more after the break....... At first glance these wooden letters appear to be nothing more than a few blocks organized on a table to create a standard alphabet. However the letters are actually illusions of perspective, viewable only from the photographed angle, certain elements stacked high while others layered below are actually far in the background.
