Kathrin’s work reflects her diverse cultural background, having lived in many European countries and finally settled in Australia in 2000. Kathrin grew up in Communist East Germany where she started taking life drawing classes at age 14. Her work is strongly influenced by socialist realism and communist propaganda art. Kathrin spent a decade in Scandinavia visiting galleries in Denmark and Sweden as well as a year in Belgium where her work gained its Art Nouveau influences. John Taylor is a self-taught artists who uses scrap wood, computer parts, hockey sticks and various other discarded materials to create unique replicas of famous sea vessels. John has been fascinated with ships ever since he saw a photo of his great-grandfather standing on the deck of a vessel, during the Spanish-American War. He was only a child, but the obsession stuck with him throughout the years, and, as an adult, he began creating these unique models of ships he saw in old photos. Working from his garage in San Juan Capistrano, he turns buckets of junk (computers chips, nails, copper wire, lawn chairs, drift wood, staples and more) into imperfect interpretations of old sea vessels. Art direction Florian Schmucker, photographer Paul Ripke, and producer called POP has teamed up and made a fun digital art series of children and parents switching heads. They have called it Kindsköpfe which is German for “Grown Ups”. Read more after the break...
